A collaboration with the awesome kentonblogs! :3
If any of you aren’t following Erica on Tumblr already, you should get on it. I made this tortoise and hare for a poster project back in school and had been thinking about animating them. Erica is a master of crackly scratch-on-film effects, so we combined forces.
Coltrane, 2014. Ink, collage and digital color.
My first QDC post of the year is a portrait of John Coltrane for our group’s contribution to Jazz and Draw. If you aren’t familiar with Coltrane’s legendary work as a saxophonist and band leader, Coltrane Plays the Blues is a great place to start.
Coltrane was a great musical figure to explore in this piece. I’m looking forward to seeing the other portraits from the rest of the QDC.
Merry Christmas! I’ve been thinking a lot about the Santa Claus myth and its origins, so I came up with this Santa Claus vs. Saint Nicholas Christmas card. Maybe Santa isn’t as bad as I’m making him out to be, but I think he’s a far cry from the humble saint who snuck money into a poor family’s house so he wouldn’t get credit for it. I hope you’re all having a saintly holiday—don’t let The Man turn you into a Claus.
My last Quick Draw post of 2013! My first year as a member of QDC has been great, cheers.
Sorcery (repeating pattern), Ink and digital color.
I’ve been inspired by a lot of magical and occult imagery lately, so that’s the direction I took for my pattern. I told my mom this would be a good design for bed sheets and she said “that would give me nightmares.” Ha!
Getting magical up in here for my latest QDC piece.
