Today is TFIOS Tuesday! In honor of the first anniversary of John Green’s The Fault in Our Stars, I made this illustration of my favorite characters from the novel, Lidewij Vliegenthart and Peter Van Houten. Peter’s pajamas have little bottles of scotch on them. I wish these pajamas were real so I could wear them.

This is my entry for October’s Butts Collective project: a poster for Platoon of Power Squadron, a wonderful and campy web-series about amateur superheroes. I may be cheating a bit since we were supposed to pick a TV show, but close enough. If you’re new to PoPS, I recommend starting here, which is when it starts to get really good. This is my entry for October’s Butts Collective project: a poster for Platoon of Power Squadron, a wonderful and campy web-series about amateur superheroes. I may be cheating a bit since we were supposed to pick a TV show, but close enough. If you’re new to PoPS, I recommend starting here, which is when it starts to get really good. They also have an IndieGoGo campaign here.

Today is Fan Art Friday! Don’t worry, I’m not making this a regular thing. This is my illustration for this month’s Butts Collective project. The assignment was to re-imagine an existing video game, so I chose on one of my childhood  favorite, Math Blaster 9-12.  If you aren’t familiar with the game, Galactic Commander, Blasternaut and Spot crash-land on an unnamed planet and you have to help them bring the Medallion of Prosperity to The Great-and-Terrible Monkey King so he will grant them a safe departure. Since the alien monkey culture in the game seemed visually inspired by early American civilizations, I decided to execute the image in the style of a Mayan wall painting. I was lucky enough to see some Mayan art in person at the Dallas Museum of Art last week with a friend, although I had the drawing essentially finished at that point.

Anyway, this is a lot less cynical than earlier versions, but it captures my frustration with living where I do and with how quickly Texan state pride gets old (how quickly? Like, right away). In case any Texan followers out there are put off by my brazen snark, I’m following up tomorrow with a Super List Saturday about things in Texas that I like. The yin and the yang, my friends. And remember, Texas is nearly half as big as Alaska!
