Sketchbook Cover, 2013. Acrylic, ink and collage on cardboard, 9”x12”.
I bind my own sketchbooks as a three-ring system with cardboard or Masonite covers so I can use whatever kind of paper I want and remove and add pages without damaging them. This is the cover for my current book.
Super List Saturday, November 16, 2013: 8 Happy Cats.
These cats are happy. Why are they so happy?
Super List Saturday, August 17, 2013: 3 Drawings of the Empire State Building I made when I was 7 years old.
I’ve been digging up old drawings from my childhood to research an autobiographical comic and these images caught my attention. I’m going to New York City for the first time ever next month and it was funny to find these visions of one of the city’s icons.
I drew big cities a lot then, based on trips to Chicago and things I’d seen in movies and comics. I think my particular fascination with the Empire State Building came from King Kong.
Super List Saturday, August 10, 2013: 17 Dead Beetles
Not gonna name any names here, but a certain retail location where I may or may not be employed has a big beetle problem right now. If you’re asking if I drew these on location using office supplies and receipt paper while clocked in and earning wages, I would ask you where you heard that rumor.
I guess I’m back to Super List Saturday? Not sure I can commit to one every week, but I’ll definitely be doing it as a regular thing again.
Super List Saturday, May 25, 2013: 12 Things That Remind Me of My Paternal Grandfather.
This list comes to you as a pre-scheduled post, because as this goes up I will be in Eastern Kansas for a Memorial Day observance of my grandfather’s death (which was ten years ago).
He’s been gone a long time, but the things in this list always make me think about him.
